Dear Parents
As another school year gets off to a start, so does the music programme!  We hope your children are settling into their music classes and that they will enjoy the coming year of music. In order for the music programme to run smoothly there are a number of issues we would like to bring to your attention.
Instrumental Music Programme Registration:   In June of each year we ask parents to register children who are interested in partaking in the music programme from the following September.  St. Canice’s music programme has grown considerably of the last few years and as a result registration in June is essential in order for us to schedule the classes during the summer months.  There are a number of children is music classes at present who have not yet been registered in the music programme.  If you have not registered your child we would ask you to complete the registration form which can be downloaded from the school website (www.stcanices.net) and make the relevant payments as soon as possible.
This is the first year we have used the school website to display the music timetable and it has proved very popular. However, over the last few weeks a large number of changes have been made to classes and it has not been possible to keep the website updated at the pace required!  Therefore, any additions/changes to classes which have been made can be viewed on the music notice board in the junior end of the school.
Prompt Collection of Children from Lessons:  We ask you to please ensure you collect your children from music lessons on time, particularly on dark nights over the winter months.  If you are running late please phone the relevant tutor to inform him/her. It is parent’s responsibility to ensure their child is not left unsupervised between music classes.
Care of Instruments:  As mentioned earlier the music programme has grown considerably over the last number of years and as a result the school’s bank of musical instruments has increased also.  The instruments being rented by the children are expensive to purchase and maintain and are valuable assets of the IMP.   We would therefore ask you to ensure your child takes great care of his/her instruments.  The repair costs of damaged instruments will be incurred by parents.
Homework Club:  Not all music classes can be scheduled to take place straight after school, some children might have an hour or half hour to wait until his/her lesson.  The Homework Club is supervised and available Monday –Thursday from 2.45-3.45 at a cost of €3.00 per hour.  Please contact Mr Crowley or Mr Hanrick if you have any queries regarding the homework club.
Music Tutors:  We will soon have on display on our music notice board an introduction to all the music tutors in St. Canice’s, with their photograph and a summary of their experience.  We would ask you to ensure you have phone numbers for your relevant tutors should you need to contact them.  Also, in the event of a lesson being cancelled by the tutor, the tutor will contact you directly.
Instrumental Music Programme AGM:  The Music Programme AGM will take place on Monday the 3rd of October at 7.30pm in the orchestra room, accessed through the new external entrance.   All are welcome and we would love to see a few new faces involved!
Finally, thank you for your continued support of St. Canice’s Music Programme and if you have any queries or concerns about instruments/lessons etc., please contact Mary @ 087 7917960 and your query will be dealt as soon as possible.
