Haiti Appeal
Sr Brigid is appealing to everyone to give generously this week to the Mission money collection which will go to the earthquake victims in Haiti. €350 collected before Christmas will also be sent there. Mission money is collected each Friday.

Confirmation
It  is the custom in the school that 5th class children support their 6th class schoolmates by forming the choir for confirmation. As well as helping out on the day, this also gives the 5th class children an insight into the sacrament of confirmation and makes them familiar with the whole order of the day. All 5th class pupils are expected to attend the Confirmation on Saturday March 13th.
This year Fr Martin will be introducing a new Parish programme of preparation for Confirmation called “You Shall be my Witnesses..” A meeting for parents will be held in the school next Tuesday. Please let your class teacher know if you unable to attend.

Catholic Schools’ Week
During this week we will celebrate our Catholic Ethos.  The theme is “A Light for Every Generation”
Various activities will be undertaken in school and several classes will visit our parish church.
All classes will attend the school mass on Thursday 4th.
In keeping with the Theme of the Week we invite all Grandparents to celebrate this mass with us. More information to follow!
Alternative arrangements will be made for  non-Catholic children who do not wish to attend  mass.

Mobile Phone Collection-600 Old Phones Needed!!
Please bring in those old mobile phones. We are aiming to collect enough for two interactive whiteboards-300 each. This would be a great boost to the IT development in the school and should be a painless way to acquire this equipment.

Kilkenny Music Festival

As a result of recent adverse weather conditions Kilkenny Music festival has been deferred to Feb 24th -28th 2010.

Winter Weather
Thanks to our caretaker Mick who kept the school in such good order during the recent cold spell.
Everything was in top order when we finally managed to return.
KCLR also provided a great communication service and I remind parents that we will use that service and updates on our website www.stcanices.net to keep people informed in similar situations.

Board of Management Reminder_
Please drop off and collect your children punctually. Driver courtesy needs to improve in the yard. There have been several incidences of parents blocking in other parents/teachers by double parking and leaving their car. Respect for others would ensure that this does not happen.

Happy New Year to everybody and I hope we have a successful, safe term.
