Presidential Visit
Everybody had a wonderful day when President McAleese and Dr. McAleese visited our school. Thanks to all staff, parents and children who helped in preparations for the day and to the Newpark Hotel for table clothes, Pat Davis of McCarthy builders for the flagstones for the path to Gairdin na Scoile, Claire Murphy in Kilkenny County Council who provided the flower tubs at the front of the school and Jackie Treacy for indoor floral displays.
Special Olympics
The Special Olympics takes place in China this year. Kilkenny has been asked to raise 70,000 euro to pay for athletes, family members, carers, interpreters and coaches. Tomorrow’s mission money collection will be tied in with a NO-UNIFORM DAY and children are asked to donate 1 euro. 6th class pupils have provided the other classes with information regarding the 3 Kilkenny athletes competing in bowling, swimming and table-tennis.
Music
Best of luck to the A Orchestra who will be playing in the Samaritans’ Concert in St. Mary’s Cathedral on Friday night.
Our handball teams are enjoying a good run in the Schools’ Championship. In the U 13 Girls Singles Danielle Kealy narrowly lost to a County player.
Richard Falsey U13Boys’.S. was again narrowly beaten as were Jason Hennessy and Enda O’Donoghue U 13 Boys’. D.
Michael Phelan won U11 boys singles first round and was beaten yesterday in the finals.
Robert Murphy and Jamie Byrne U 11 B.D. have won their way through the first two rounds as has Kirsty Maher in the U 11 G. S. and Niamh Rice and Muireann BrennanU 13 G.D.
Eva Maher and Aoife Prendergast U 11 G. D. won through round 1 and are due to play again today. Best of luck to all and well done.
Quiz
Good luck to our Junior Quiz team who will be taking part in the second round of the St. Canice’s Credit Union Quiz this Sunday- Ormonde Morrissey, Kym Byrne, Jessica Cantwell and Amy McGourty.
Special Class
Great refurbishment and renovation is going on in the rooms at the back of the hall. Our first pupil is due to start next Wednesday and our second the following week.
Wet Day Activities
We are currently in the process of setting up “Wet Day Activity” boxes for classes. If you have any suitable board games, jigsaws, construction toys-Lego etc. that are in good condition and you would like to donate them us, please leave them in the box in Bernie’s office.
