March 7th: Closing date for Acceptance of Junior Infant Places
March 10th: School Development Planning Day: School closed for children.
March 11th to 14th: Seachtain na Gaeilge
March 14th: School closes 12 noon for pupils for Easter Holidays.
March 31st: School re-opens for Summer Term.
Attached Sheets: We will be introducing the new tracksuit from next Sept. For the first year children will continue to be allowed to wear the old one. We have also organised to send any old tracksuits in good condition to a school in Kenya. At the moment Pauls are selling off the old tracksuits at half-price. The letter from Pauls outlines how to go about ordering your new tracksuit for Sept.
Traffic: Many of the traffic problems are caused by thoughtlessness on the part of the drivers. The sheet from the Parents’ Association outlines the traffic plan that is in place. Please read it carefully.
First Confession
Pupils from 2nd class made their First Confession last Thursday night. Congratulations to all the children and thank you to Fr. Jim who lead a lovely ceremony and to Fr. Jim Forristal, Fr. Mark Condon, Fr. Ollie Maher, Fr. Dan Carroll and Fr.Liam who heard confessions on the night.
Confirmation
As confirmation draws near, 6th class, under the able direction of Mary Craddock, are preparing their Spiritual Reflection on the Stations of the Cross. They will lead the congregation in prayer on Good Friday in St. Canice’s Church. They will also lead the school in celebrating the Stations of the Cross next Wed March 12th at 10am in the church.
“Together We Welcome the Spirit” Thank you to the fourteen parents who volunteered to run this programme with the 6th class pupils. They ran workshops for the children for the past 3 Monday nights and enriched their understanding of the sacrament.
School mass this Thursday at 10am lead by 5th class. Altar servers will have a final rehearsal after the mass.
Quiz News
Well done to our Senior Quiz team: William Oakes, Cathal Boland, Catherine O’Dwyer and Ruth Carey. They were runners-up in the regional final last Sunday. Besides their own personal prizes, they also won €200 for the school. They have qualified to represent our school and the Kilkenny Region in the All-Ireland on April 6th in the RDS. Thank you to Ms Sheehan who organises these teams.
Music
Congratulations to the “A” orchestra who won the Peter Killian cup in the Feis Ceoil yesterday. They were a credit to their families and school in the way they behaved themselves throughout the day. Thank you to all the teachers: Margaret, Jacky, Olwen, Eamonn, Ms Lowe, Mark and Karen and parents involved in the music programme and to Ms O’Leary, Ms Lowe, Ms Sheehan and all the parents who travelled on the day. It was a team effort to be proud of.

Seachtain na Gaeilge
Beidh Seachtain na Gaeilge ar siúl againn ón 11-14 Márta. Beidh imeachtaí éagsúla ar siúl as Gaeilge-Tráth na gCeist, P.E. as gaeilge, Céili Mór agus ar eile. Tabhair tacaíocht dúinn agus labhair an “cúpla focail” sa bhaile.
We will have Seachtain na Gaeilge next week 11-14th. Many activities will take place during those days including Quiz, P.E. through Irish, and Céili Mór for all classes etc. Please support us by speaking some Irish at home those days
Sport
Our girls’ football team have notched up two good wins, so far, in beating Thomastown and Clara. Moneenroe will provide tough opposition away this Thursday followed by another away match v The Rower next week.
The boys’ football 7-a-side qualified for the next round with victories over Gowran and St. Patrick’s.
On Friday. Our 7-a-side hurlers compete in the first round v C.B.S., Kilmanagh and Tullaroan.
The Roinn A and Roinn C teams will begin their championships directly after the Easter Holidays.
Challenge game v St. Fiacre’s from Beaumount next Wednesday.
Handball: Best of luck to Ciara Tyrrell, Eva Maher and Kirsty Maher who will represent the school in the Schools’ Championship Skills tomorrow in O’Loughlin’s.

Chess League matches continue with an away game today v Kells.
