March 15th to 19th: Seachtain na Gaeilge
March 17th: St. Patrick’s Day: School Closed.
March 18th: Closing date for Acceptance of Junior Infant Places
Monday March 22nd: First Penance for 2nd Class. 7pm St. Canice’s Church.
*April 30th: School Development Planning Day. School Closed for pupils. This is the closure not already specified on our holiday sheet.

 

Seachtain na Gaeilge

Beidh Seachtain na Gaeilge ar siúl againn ón 15-19 Márta. Beidh imeachtaí éagsúla ar siúl as Gaeilge-Tráth na gCeist, P.E. as gaeilge, Comórtas Filiochta, Céili Mór agus ar eile. Tabhair  tacaíocht dúinn agus labhair an “cúpla focail” sa bhaile.
We will have Seachtain na Gaeilge next week 15-19th March. Many activities will take place during those days including Quiz, P.E. through Irish, and Poetry Recitation, Céili Mór for all classes etc. Please support us by speaking some Irish at home those days and encouraging your child to take part in all activities.

Quiz News
Well done to our Senior Quiz team: Marie Boland,  Eimear Conroy, Peter Lynch and Sean Foley. They came first in the regional final last Sunday.
Besides their own personal prizes, they also won €200 for the school and  have qualified to represent our school and the Kilkenny Region in the All-Ireland in the RDS. Thank you to Ms Sheehan who organises these teams.

Mission Money
This week’s Mission Money collection is in aid of Crumlin Children’s Hospital. The money will be presented
to the Quintessenz Brass Quintet who will perform for 4th class on Friday. This is a visiting group from Germany who perform at various concerts/events and donate the money to a chosen charity.

E.B.S./INTO Handwriting
We are delighted to have three winners in this handwriting competition. Congratulations to Margaret Mary O’Shea  and Oisín Farrell from Ms O’Leary’s class and Niall Kenny from Mr Delaney’s class. They have been invited to a prize- giving ceremony next Monday night.

Music
Feis Ceoil takes place on Tuesday March 16th. Both “A” and “B” orchestras will be travelling.
Final rehearsals take place at the following times and all parents are invited to come and hear the performances.
“B” Orchestra –Monday 15th 2.45 to 3.45
“A” Orchestra –Tonight Wed. 6.45 to 8.15

KAZOO
 The programme filmed recently with the Music Programme will be broadcast on RTE 2 on Monday March 22nd at 2.55pm and repeated the next morning.

 

Sport
Our girls’ football team  lost their first match away to old rivals Gowran. They followed this up with a good home win over Clara. St. John of God, Piltown and K.S.P. are the remaining opponents over the next three weeks. Training continues every day in the field.
 
Hurling: The hurling season begins with the B team home game V Johnstown in the Tommy O’Brien Cup knockout competition on March 18th and A team home to St. John’s in the first round of the Roinn A Educational Supplies League on March 24th.
Internal school leagues continue every lunch time in the park.

Handball:
Congratulations to Conor Doheny and Aidan Nolan who reached the County Final of the U 13 Schools’ Competition. They were narrowly beaten by Clogh.
Olivia Nolan was also narrowly beaten in the Girls’ U 13 Singles. She will be eligible for this grade again next year.

Chess
The opening matches in the “Checkmate” League  resulted in three loses and one win against Clogh
