Seachtain na Gaeilge

We had a great Seachtain na Gaeilge. The standard in all competitions was extremely high. The results will be put on up the website once we get back online. Well done to gach duine.
School Bus
Families currently using the school bus service should have received a letter from Bus Eireann regarding the arrangements for next year. If you have not you need to contact Bus Eireann immediately.
Bus ticket applications must be returned by March 31st.
Easter Raffle
Even in his absence, we have decided to uphold Mr Robert’s traditional Easter raffle! If you have any prizes to donate please drop them in to Bernie in the office. They will be much appreciated. Tickets will be sent out for sale at the end of next week. Again, please support this venture as it provides much needed funds for equipment etc. the draw will be held on April 13th.
Tours
School tour planning is well under way. As a staff, we are conscious of the cost to families. The majority of tours will cost approx €20. 2nd class will cost €35, but will include a local trip as well. 5th class is the dearest at €45 but the children were told about it after Christmas and the teachers have been collecting money in instalments. The teachers (and pupils) consider the trip to be excellent and good value for money. If the cost is an issue with you please contact either the class teacher or myself.
E.B.S./INTO Handwriting
We had great success in this competition this year. Congratulations to all our prize winners.

 Lost property
We have cleaned out the lost property. Small items (infant classes) will be left in front of the school from 1.30 tomorrow while larger items will be left in Ms O’Connor’s room for the full day from 9 onwards. Please collect any items you own.
Music
Feis Ceoil takes place on Tuesday April 12th. Both “A” and “B” orchestras will be travelling.
Many of the children attended a fantastic Army Band concert in the Loreto Hall as a special treat for classes who gathered significant amounts of “ticéadaí” during Seachtain na Gaeilge. Our “A”orchestra gave a polished performance beforehand in preparation for their Feis Ceoil outing.
Again, congratulations to all the prize winners in the recent Kilkenny Music Festival. There was a world of talent and enthusiasm to be seen.
Sport
The hurling teams are well into their matches in the Roinn A and Roinn C competitions.
Roinn D camogie starts the week before Easter with Roinn A beginning the first week in May.
 BUILDING
The builders are making great progress. The Board of Management is currently contacting Past Pupils looking for contributions to the Building Fund. If you feel you can help contact or distribute letters to past pupils please let me know.
Parents Association Updates
Thank you to the huge number of parents who supported the school calendar so enthusiastically. We hope you liked the finished product and will find it both a useful school planner and a nice keepsake from your child’s school days in years to come.

The uniform sale held last week was a great success, with lots of parents getting great quality uniforms at a fraction of the normal cost. A big thank you to everyone who donated uniform items, without your generosity this event could not have been held. We hope to hold another sale before school finishes in June. Further details will follow.

We are currently starting to organise a Family Fun Day for the final school term. It is a day the children really enjoy and a great community event, with bouncy castles, races, face painting, raffles, wheel of fortune, cake stalls, book stalls, barbeque and much, much more. If you would like to get involved or have any ideas, suggestions or comments, we would love to hear from you! Please contact any member of the Parents Association or call Angela Browne at 086-8185456 or Janet Hennessy at 087-6109781 or e-mail angelabrowne10@eircom.net.

In response to requests from parents, we have negotiated a good rate, and organised a photographer to take children’s photos the week before Easter. The photos will then be available after Easter. You will get a note asking whether you wish child to be photographed or not. If you opt to have your child photographed you will then have a choice whether to purchase the photo or not. The aim of this is to provide a service for parents, not just a fundraiser.
