Our week will end with a display of information in the community hall about each of the nineteen countries studied. There will also be musical items, country colours, language, national anthems and even some food on display! You are invited to come and see our display on Friday. It will be open from 11.30 until 2pm. Musical performances will take place at 11.30, 12 and 1.20. You child will be able to tell you tomorrow if there is a specific time for their class display.
Seachtain na Gaeilge
Great fun was had by all at our Céilí Mór and dancing skills and repertoire are steadily improving. This year we were delighted to be able to offer two half scholarships worth €180 to the popular Campa Saoire Cois Fheoire held during the summer. Sincere thanks to Eilis Bn. Uí Shé who donated this generous prize to us. All entrants from 5th and 6th had to undergo an agallamh/interview and the winners were Aisling NicAonghusa and Alex Ní hÓráin . Comhghairdeas dóibh.
Music
A Orchestra are competing in the Feis Ceoil today. A collection at their recent concert with the DYO Strings in St. Mary’s Cathedral raised €1,351 for Beslan.
Beslan
Colin Goggin from the Russia Ireland Foundation spoke to our 5th and 6th classes. In response to moving and informative talk, Ms Conroy’s 5th class ran a cake sale which raised €469.14 and Ms O’Brien’s 5th class raised €321. All this will also go to Beslan.
Handball
Kirsty Maher 4th Class has had great success in the Schools’ Handball Competition. Kirsty won out the Kilkenny section of the under 11 girls’ singles. Yesterday, she competed in the Leinster Championship and beat all comers to become the Leinster Champion. This is a fantastic achievement as the competition is intense. She now represents our school, Kilkenny and Leinster in the All-Ireland Exhibitions in Croke Park next Sunday. Well done Kirsty!
Quiz
Our Junior Quiz team will also be representing us in an All-Ireland Final of the St. Canice’s Credit Union Quiz this Sunday. Ormonde Morrissey, Kym Byrne, Jessica Cantwell and Amy McGourty won the regional final and in doing so won €200 for the school. This will be used to buy a digital camera. Best of luck to them on Sunday and thanks to St. Canice’s Credit Union for their Sponsorship and thanks to Ms Sheehan for all her work with these teams.
Credit Union
After a lapse of a number of years, our school Credit Union savings scheme has been resumed thanks to parents Bregeen Murphy and Janet Hennessy. It is presently open to 4th and 5th classes. Money may be lodged every Wednesday and withdrawn around school tour time.
Wet Day Activities
We are currently in the process of setting up “Wet Day Activity” boxes for classes. If you have any suitable board games, jigsaws, construction toys-Lego etc. that are in good condition and you would like to donate them us, please leave them in the box in Bernie’s office.
