Morning Play

In order to take advantage of the good weather and to maximise the time spent outdoors by the children, we will supervise the Senior and Junior yards from 8.40 to 8.50 each morning. We intend to do this on a trial basis on fine days in May and June. As pupils arrive in the morning, they should bring their bag/gear to their normal line and then play in their normal yard. Instead of bringing the children in at 8.40 the supervising teachers and SNAs will go out to the yards. When the 8.50 bell rings for class, children line up as they would normally do after play times and class teachers will collect them.
Ball games will not be allowed in the Senior yard as many people pass through this yard from the Freshford Rd. entrance to the Junior yard.
The area in front of the school will not be supervised as it is not a normal play area. Children should go to their normal play area. All classes have been told this by their teacher and have been shown what to do. If your child has access to an SNA please arrange a drop off spot with the SNA.
This arrangement will apply to fine days only. On wet days doors will open at 8.40.
Please remember that morning supervision of pupils always begins at 8.40, wet or dry.
Book Grant
To be eligible to take part in the book rental scheme which is grant-aided by the Dept. of Ed. and Science a family must qualify under one of the following three criteria: 1.Dependent mainly on social welfare, 2. Low incomes from employment, 3. Financial hardship because of particular circumstances.  An application form for next year has been sent to any existing participating family. If you are entitled to apply to join the scheme and have not received a form please call into Bernie in the office and fill one in.
Skipathon
Following our initial participation in the Skipathon last year, it was decided to organise a day again this year. Last Friday there was a great buzz around the place as infants to 6th class skipped for half an hour in one of the allocated stations. Forward skipping, run and skip, skipping to rhymes, skipping in groups and various “Star Turns” were to be seen. €600 was raised for The Irish Heart Foundation. Please encourage your child to continue to bring skipping ropes to school.
Sport
Hard luck to the Girls’ Football team who lost their final in Nowlan Park. Our opponents Thomastown got a great start with an early goal and, despite heroic efforts by all our team particularly in the second half, victory was not to be. On the day we were beaten by a stronger side.
Camogie
After a great performance in the second round of the mini-sevens, our school camogie team narrowly missed out on a place in the finals of this competition.
B panel scored a good win over Danesfort last week and continue their campaign with a home match v Clogh this week.
A panel won away to Kilmanagh and have a bye this week.
Hurling leagues are also in full swing. All classes from 2nd to 6th are also participating in the local Class Leagues with 6th already qualified for the final.

Supervalu Tokens
11,000 tokens were collected and will be used to get sports equipment for the school. Thank you to all parents who collected these vouchers.
