Summer Works Scheme

We applied to the Dept. of  Ed. & Science for a grant for replacement windows and electrical updating under the Summer Works Scheme in Oct. 2007. This scheme was postponed and has been re-instated for this year. Our application was successful and  this work will be carried out in the coming months. If anybody is interested in the Tendering details please contact Prochem Engineering. This is the company who will be managing the project for the Board.

Book Grant
As you are aware, the Book Grant has been axed by the Dept. Our B.O.M. is prepared to subsidise this scheme for this year. I will send the application form next Tuesday to any family who has already been in the scheme. Please return this by Friday if you still qualify. In many cases, a family’s financial circumstances might have changed significantly since this time last year. If you need to avail of this scheme please contact Bernie or Ms Comerford for a form immediately. This can be done in confidence. We will stretch the subsidy as far as possible to cater for everybody. If anybody has English readers, Alive-O class books, Earthlink books or indeed any other school books lying around the house could you please drop them in to Bernie’s office and we will put them to good use.

Skipathon
The Skipathon was a great success and €600 has been sent to the Irish Heart Foundation.
Ms Tallis, Ms O’Mahoney and Ms Kelly’s classes have contributed generously to Crumlin’s Children’s Hospital and to the O’Neill Centre from their First Communion money.
Sport
Hard luck to the Girls’ Football team who lost their final in Nowlan Park.  Gowran provided strong opposition and had a great start by scoring 2-2 before we started to get into the match. Despite a fierce foray on the Gowran goal, our team only managed to register a single point with 9 wides! Terrific play in the second half brought us back to within a point but unfortunately, we ran out of time and victory went to Gowran. Well done to all the panel who have worked so hard during the year.
Camogie
Congratulations to Emma Bawle, Alex Lawless, Eva Manogue, Sarah Lanigan, Kirsty Maher, Bronagh Cleere, Sarah Kent, Jenny Clifford, Hannah Lacey and Michaela Delaney who won the county final of the Mini-Sevens Camogie and represented Kilkenny in the regional Finals in Bagnelstown yesterday.
National Children’s Choir
Congratulations also to the following 5th and 6th class pupils who have been chosen to sing in the National Concert Hall on June 8th: Sarah Gordon, Ruth Carey, Lauren Walsh, Aisling Costello, Anna Walsh, Aisling Clarke, Jack Ormond, Seán Lennon, Leah Delaney, Vivien Brennan, Colin Dempsey, Emer Conroy, Lauren Fitzpatrick, Jenna Raggett, Alex Lawless, Emma Bawle, Maebh O’Reilly, Jenny Lowe, Róisín Mullan.

This time of year can be stressful for everybody. Please remember that if you have a complaint, problem or a concern you can talk to your class teacher or to me. I am in the Senior playground every morning from 8.40 to 8.50 or if you need a longer time feel free to phone and make an appointment to see me.
