Information Sheet Sept. 06
Date to Remember: Meeting for parents of First Communion children. Tonight Mon. 11th
8pm in School.
Welcome back to everybody. We look forward to a new school year and encourage everyone to settle down to work again.
A particular welcome to our new Junior Infants, many of whom have already featured on the local newspapers and pupils both Irish and non-national who have joined the older classes. Céad Mile Fáilte
Prefabs:
The prefabs finally arrived last Saturday and we expect to have all the site and installation works finished this week. Appearances are deceptive and despite the exterior look, they are very spacious and well finished inside! Thanks to the resource teachers and pupils who worked under difficult circumstances for the past fortnight.
The long awaited bicycle rack will be in the area between the resource prefabs and the office.
Attendance:
Our general attendance rate is 96%, but by the end of last year quite a number of children had clocked up absences of over 20 days. Many of these were genuine reasons but some were not. To remind you—all absences of over 20 days must be officially reported to the N.E.W.B. and also any cases of persistent absenteeism. This does not mean that a child is entitled to take 20 days off-they are obliged to be in school every day. So please do your best to have your child in school and contact us if there are any problems. It is your child who misses out when time is missed.
Sports
The annual cross country primary schools competition was due to be held today in the Castle Park but has been postponed until next Monday due to weather conditions.
Girls’ camogie training has re-commenced and all are welcome.
Boys’ Gaelic football has also begun.
Congratulations to Robert Slater, Eoin Gough and Rory Glynn who were on the Dicksboro U-14 panel who won the Roinn A County Final at the weekend.
We are waiting the arrival of the hurlers with the McCarthy Cup.
General
The children have been told which doors to use entering and exiting the school. Please co-operate with this arrangement as it is in the safety interest of your children to do so.
We are extremely lucky to have the use of James Park during playtime. We are indebted to the Kilkenny Agricultural Society for their generosity in allowing us to use this invaluable facility.
We insist that all children availing of the facility change their footgear entering and leaving the park and treat it with respect at all times.
Teacher News
We are delighted to have Ms Fiona Enright and Mr Dermot Hoyne, who will be joining us shortly, appointed as permanent members of staff. Ms Siobhan Kelly returns as 1st class teacher and Mr Jimmy Lacey is most welcome as 4th class teacher.
