School Calendar;
Your child should have a copy of the calendar for this year. There is only one inservice day scheduled for this year. The date has yet to be confirmed and we will let you know as soon as it is.
Junior Infant Meeting
During this meeting, the teachers will outline the programme of work being followed by the classes and answer any queries you might have. Refreshments will be provided afterwards by our Parents’ Association so it is also a social occasion and a chance to meet with other parents.
Silver Circle Draw
Your child will be coming home with Silver Circle cards this week. This is the biggest of our three fund-raisers during the year. Please give your support to this venture. The money raised is spent on equipment and resources for your child’s benefit. There will be three draws in Oct. this year from Wed. 3rd to Wed. 24th.
Please ensure that your child returns his/her card to the school as we have to account for all cards distributed.
Non-English Speaking Pupils
Some of the pupils starting this year are non-English speaking. If you have any “First Word/Vocabulary/Dictionary” type books that you are no longer using, we would be grateful to get them in order to set up a library of resources to cater for these children.
Sports:
Athletics: Our athletes made a clean sweep of the primary schools Cross Country competition organised by Kilkenny City Harriers.
6 individual medals were won. 7 sets of team medals and Best Boys’ Trophy, Best Girls’ Trophy and Overall Best School were also brought back. Well done to all. The List of prizewinners is on the Sports Notice Board.
Gaelic:
Congratulations to April Purcell, past pupil, who starred as centre back on the All-Ireland winning Kilkenny Ladies Football Team. April also organises the Schools’ Girls Football League.
We have two teams currently participating in the Cumann na mBunscoil Football League.
Handball: Congratulations to Kirsty Maher who won a Leinster U 12 medal in doubles handball with her club.
Textaparent
We are introducing a text messaging service on a trial basis. This will mean that short and urgent messages can be sent to groups of parents regarding e.g. matches, class activities etc.
Even in the last three weeks it has become apparent that mobile phone numbers have been changed and we no longer have relevant ones. To facilitate setting up this service, please enter the mobile number of whichever parent you wish these messages to be sent to and return slip from end of calendar to your class teacher
