Information Sheet September 2008
Fáilte romhaibh go léir ar ais ar scoil agus fáilte mór roimh na daltaí nua atá tosaithe sa scoil seo linne.
Welcome back to everybody and a particular welcome to our new pupils throughout the school.
Dates to note:
Friday Sept. 12th. Staff meeting. School closes 12 noon for pupils. Supervision of yard until 12.15.
All-Ireland Victory
To celebrate this great achievement and occasion and to allow as many people as possible to welcome back our hurlers, there will be no homework tonight.
Morning Play
Before the summer holidays we allowed the children a morning play between 8.40 and 8.50 on a trial basis. This worked very well and has been re-introduced for the Senior classes from this morning. Weather permitting, we will include the Junior section from tomorrow on. It basically means that in the morning children leave their bags in the line and then play in the playground until the bell rings. They then line up and their class teacher collects them and brings them in. The teachers have shown the children where their line is and also which door they should be using to enter and exit the school.
Building
The Dept. of Education and Science sanctioned purchase of a prefab to accommodate our new class. This is scheduled to be in place in mid-Oct. There will also be a resource room in the unit which will help alleviate the overcrowding in the resource section. Ms Tallis’ class, who are presently being taught by Ms Heavey for the duration of Ms Tallis’ maternity leave, will then move out to the new prefab.
Resource Classes
Resource, learning support and Language support classes have now resumed. The team teaching which was so successful in Senior Infants last year will continue in the three Senior Infants classes this year. We will be implementing Team Teaching in one of the 4th class for Maths. Again, this is on a trial basis. If you have any queries regarding resource, please make an appointment to meet Ms Kennedy or your child’s resource teacher. They are generally available from 2.15 until 2.45.
Sport
Gaelic football: The boys in-school football league for 3rd to 6th classes has begun. Two teams have been entered in the Cumann na mBunscoil Leagues. Matches commencing this week.
Names are being taken at the moment for the in-school Girls’ football League. This is also for 3rd-6th class pupils.
Camogie
