All-Ireland Victory

Congratulations to our Senior hurlers on their fine achievement. Commiserations to our Minor team who put up a great fight. Well done in particular to our past teacher Ritchie Mulrooney, past pupil Killian Buckley who had an outstanding match and to his Boro team mates-Danny Kenny, Ollie Walsh, and Murt Gaffney who gave their all on the day.

Congratulations also to Sarah Lanigan and Kirsty Maher who featured in the Mini Sevens Matches. Both have just moved on to Loreto. Sarah played on All Ireland semi-final day and scored a fine point. Kirsty played on All Ireland day and scored a cracking goal.

Hopefully this wonderful success will inspire all our pupils to get straight into football leagues and training. (Details below)

Renovations

As you probably noticed there was huge work done in the school in record time over the summer. The windows and patio doors have been replaced by double glazed, toughened glass PVC versions. The remaining doors are scheduled to be replaced at the Halloween break.

The school has also been completely rewired. New light fixtures, intercom, fire alarm and door bell have also been installed.

To access the school simply ring the front door bell and you will be “buzzed” in. You still need to use the handle. There are some teething problems with the equipment so please be patient.

Most of the usual summer cleaning jobs could not be carried out but they will be done over the coming weeks.

Resource Classes

Resource, learning support and language support classes have now resumed. Team teaching continues in Senior Infants and will also take place in 5th class maths on a rota basis. If you have any queries regarding resource, please make an appointment to meet Ms Kennedy or your child’s resource teacher. They are generally available from 2.15 until 2.45.

Music

Music classes have now resumed. All time tabling difficulties are being ironed out. Thank you for your patience.

Mission Money

The Mission Money account 2008/2009 is shown below. Thanks to all who contributed so generously during the year. Special thanks to the First Communion and Confirmation classes. As you can see, your money helped a wide variety of worthwhile causes.

I.T.

We are now equipped with two new interactive whiteboards in 6th class and Junior Infants, three e-beam smart boards in Senior Infants, 1st and 4th and two new data projectors in Senior Infants and 3rd class. This is the result of the fundraising initiatives undertaken in the school by staff and parents association. They are a great addition to the school to keep us to the forefront on technological advances. We have a plan for the full kitting out of the school over the next few years. This is totally reliant on our fund raising ventures so please continue to contribute as generously as you have in recent years.

General

For new parents- an information sheet is sent out approximately once a month. A copy is given to the youngest child in each family. A copy is also posted on the school website www.stcanices.net.

If any new child has come to 3rd to 6th class in the school, has not yet received First Communion and /or First Penance and wishes to do so, please contact Ms Comerford this week.

Please bring your queries/complaints/worries to your class teacher’s attention or to my attention. My door is always open and the majority of issues can be resolved speedily and to everyone’s satisfaction. If you need time to discuss an issue with your teacher or myself it is generally best to make an appointment first through Bernie in the office.

We hope and pray for another happy, successful year in our school.
