Heelies
At our staff meeting on Friday it was unanimously decided to ban heelies on health and safety grounds. We had experimented with allowing the pupils to wear the heelies as long as they did not wheel in the school building. However, certain problems arose-
-nobody could resist wheeling on the lovely smooth corridor and wet area surfaces!
-trying to walk properly on the heelies required all sorts of contortions
-even without the wheels, the runners were proving totally unsuitable for normal P.E.
so, on balance, we feel that the school premises are not suitable for heelies.
The ban comes into effect from next Monday-Oct.16th. Children have already been informed of this in their classes. Certain leeway will be allowed until the mid-term break but after that the ban is total.
Aid for Lebanon
Thank you for your support for this collection. The food and clothes left into the school have been collected and will be sent by container to the Lebanon.
Sports
Boys’ Gaelic football team have continued their winning ways with victories over The Rower Inistiog, Gaelscoil, C.B.S. and Thomastown. They have now qualified for the Roinn A semi-final.
The School Football League (3rd to 6th classes) has reached semi-final stages with Dublin v Laois and Kerry v Galway to be played today.
2nd class hurlers also continue training until Halloween with Ms O’Neill.
Early Collection of Pupils
It has happened a couple of times over the past few months that a child has been collected early by one parent or minder and then somebody else has turned up to collect the child at a later time. To avoid confusion and in the interests of child protection, if you or somebody else is collecting your child before going home time, the collector will be asked by the class teacher to sign an early collection sheet. This will help us to keep track of where children are at any particular time and will help to ensure their safety in our care. Thank you for your co-operation.
Music
Well done to the A Orchestra and soloists who gave a wonderful performance at the Pan Celtic festival. Apart from their musical excellence, their behaviour was a credit to them.
Teacher News
Welcome to Mr Dermot Hoyne who started in the school here on Monday. He will be working as a resource teacher this year.
