Board of Management
Last month the BOM received a request from our local Special Education Needs Organiser to set up a special class within the school for children on the autistic spectrum. Following much research and discussion the board has agreed to do so if training, accommodation needs etc. are addressed. The class will cater for up to six children with 1-1.5 teachers and 2 S.N.A.’s.
Niall Mellon Foundation
The no-uniform day in aid of the Niall Mellon fund raised 1400 euro. This has been presented to Liam Heffernan who will shortly be travelling to South Africa with the building group. Thank you to everyone who contributed and to Sr. Brigid who organised the collection.Fund-raisingThe first draw for the Silver Circle has taken place and results are available in the school. Mile buiochas to all who bought and sold lines thus ensuring that we can buy equipment and fund activities in the school. The total amount raised will be announced at the end of the final draw.ConcernThe annual Concern collection takes place on Fri/Sat 1st/2nd December and Ms deLoughry will shortly be looking for her team of collectors.
Road Safety/Cycling Course
The Parents’ Association are highlighting Road Safety this year and as part of their campaign have asked that a road safety/cycling course be organised for the children. 5th and 6th class will begin this six-week programme this week. The cost of the course is 23euro per head but with various subsidies: 5 euro Kilkenny County Council, 5 euro Road safety Authority, 5 euro School, 3 euro Parents’ Association, we have reduced the cost to 5 euro per child. We will also be showing the “Belt up safely with Dustin” DVD this week.
Sports
Best of luck to the boys’ Gaelic football team who have reached the semi-final stage of the Roinn A Championship. This match will be played in Danesfort at 3o’clock on tomorrow, Tuesday against St. John’s.
Camogie; A very successful camogie blitz was run in the school just before the Halloween break. 66 girls from 3rd to 6th classes participated with Orla Hanrick’s team defeating Sarah Hennessy’s in the final. Thanks to transition year students Kevin Nolan and Mike Kealy who helped with the running of the blitz as part of their work experience. It’s time for our winter break now and camogie training will resume in the spring.
Music
The A.G.M. of the Music Programme’s Parents’ Committee takes place next Monday Nov. 20th.
The popular annual quiz night takes place on Nov. 29th from 7-9pm in the Newpark Hotel. Martin Pegg is hard at work on what promises to be a lively set of questions
Staff News
Best wishes for a speedy recovery to our caretaker Mick. He is recuperating at home following an eye operation. In his absence we are pleased to have John Hackett working for a couple of hours each morning.
