Information Sheet December 09

tDates to Remember:

Tuesday 8th: Holy Day School Closed

Friday 18th: School Carol Service in Hall 1pm

Lost Property

There are loads of items in the Lost property bin. Please remind your child to search there for any missing clothes/lunch bags etc.

Please make sure that your child brings a coat/jacket to school during the winter months. Many are hopping out of cars and leaving coats behind.

Phone Calls
It is general school policy not to phone home for items that the children forget.  It is good training for the children to be responsible for bringing all that they need for the day.  Exceptions are made in cases of emergency.

Operation Christmas Child

567 Shoe boxes were packed onto the army truck on their way to children who might not receive any other Christmas gifts. Thank you to all the children and parents who assembled such lovely boxes.  There will 567 very happy children thanks to your generosity. €2,035 was also raised to cover transport coats. Thank you to Sr Brigid for all her hard work in organising and co-ordinating this event.

Jack and Jill Foundation

Every year we collect old mobile phones for the Jack and Jill Foundation. This year there is an added incentive for schools. The Interactive Whiteboard suppliers, Promethean, will supply and fit the school with an interactive whiteboard for every 300 phones collected. We are appealing to you once again to root out and donate any old mobile phones you might have. Children can bring them in to school and there will be a collection point outside Bernie’s office.

Music

Best of luck to Ms Lowe’s Recorder Ensemble and Eamonn’s Jazz Band in the Kilkenny Schools’ Concert for Kilkenny Lions Club Christmas Hamper and Charity Appeal. This takes place on Thursday December 10th at 8pm in St. Canice’s Cathedral. All support welcome.

Sport
Congratulations to the A panel fooballers who won the Roinn A final in a tough match v C.B.S. and also our Roinn B footballers who qualified for the knock out stages for the first time. They lost narrowly to Clogh/Moneenroe in their quarter final.
We were delighted to have our past pupils Ciarán Gough and Kevin Nolan to present the Roinn A football medals to the winning panel.  Both of these boys were on the A team for the first Roinn A Football victory  in 2002.  Ciarán’s brother Oisín and Kevin’s two brothers Aidan and Mark are on the current panel. In fact, there has been a Gough on all the winning A panels from 2002 to 2009.
