School Carol Service
All parents and friends are invited to our annual Carol Service in the hall on Friday 18th. All classes and children take part. Your class teacher will tell your child what part to dress as and they will be rehearsing their lines during the week. As usual, we will collect non-perishable food items for the needy as part of our preparation for our carol service. Items will be collected from all classes by Ms O’Brien’s pupils on a daily basis and will then be sent to the local St. Vincent de Paul Society.
Christmas Plays
Many classes are performing their Christmas plays in their classrooms. Thanks to teachers, children and parents for their hard work in preparing and staging these plays.
Building News
The fence in the Junior Yard will be erected over the Christmas holidays.
The Board of Management has been sanctioned a grant for the building of a Special Classroom and a mainstream classroom. Work will begin on these as soon as possible. Hopefully, they will be in place for the next school year.
Sports
The final of the Boys’ Football Lunch time league was played yesterday. Bill Sheehan’s team took on Aidan Nolan’s team. After a tough match, Aidan’s team came out on top. Well done to them and congratulations to all 8 teams (120) boys who took part, making this the most successful league to date. Thanks to Mr Hanrick, Mr Crowley, Mr Hoyne, Mr Delaney and Mr Lennon for all the time and effort they put into this league.
Mr Hoyne brought a 4th class boys indoor hurling team to O’Loughlin’s for a blitz this morning. They drew with Castlecomer and beat St. John’s.
Thomastown narrowly beat our Girls’ Football team in the Mini 7’s last week. Having enjoyed a good lead, our team saw the visitors fight back and clinch victory with a goal in the last minute.
Cake Sale
The Parents’ Association would like to thank you all for generously supporting the cake sale on Friday 4th Dec. We received a huge supply of cakes and buns – everything from iced buns to rice crispie buns, brownies to biscuits. We raised over Euro 800 in just two and a half hours. Thanks too, to the parents who volunteered to help on the day. Many thanks again for your continuous support and a happy Christmas.
Lost Property
Please collect items from lost property before Christmas as they will be cleared out over the holidays.
Mobile Phones/Computers
If Santa brings you a new phone for Christmas, please remember to hand in your old one to the school! We need 300 for an interactive board.
The Dept. of Education and Science has given all schools a computer grant. The aim of this grant is to provide all classes with a teaching computer, a wireless mouse and keyboard, and a fixed overhead digital projector. We will make the grant stretch as far as possible.
